نحوه‌ی عملکرد واحد تریپ TM-D در کلید اتوماتیک اشنایدر سه پل 250 آمپر 50 کیلو آمپر :
واحد تریپ TM-D از دو حفاظت حرارتی و مغناطیسی تشکیل شده است. اگر جریانی که از حفاظت حرارتی عبور می کند از مقدار تنظیم شده ی جریان نامی بیش تر شود، بی متال به خاطر گرمای زیاد داغ و خم شده و به میله ی تریپ برخورد می کند و سبب قطع برق می شود. بنابراین این حفاظت با یک تاخیر مشخصی برق را قطع کرده و از تجهیزات در برابر اضافه بار محافظت می کند. در شرایط اتصال کوتاه باید بدون تاخیر برق قطع شود از این رو از حفاظت مغناطیسی استفاده می شود. حفاظت مغناطیسی یک سیم پیچ مغناطیسی دارد که با عبور جریان از آن یک میدان مغناطیسی تولید می کند که باعث حرکت هسته ی سیم پیچ به سمت میله ی تریپ و قطع برق می شود.

The TM-D trip unit consists of two thermal and magnetic protections. If the current passing through the thermal protection exceeds the set value of the rated current, the bimetal heats up and bends due to excessive heat and hits the trip rod, causing the power to be cut off. Therefore, this protection cuts off the power with a certain delay and protects the equipment from overload. In a short circuit condition, the power must be cut off without delay, hence the use of magnetic protection. Magnetic protection has a magnetic coil, which produces a magnetic field when the current passes through it, which causes the core of the coil to move towards the trip rod and cut off the power.
